AI Summer Programs for High School Students

Summer break is the perfect time for high school students to dive into the exciting world of Artificial Intelligence. But why  AI? For those interested in computer science, AI is a valuable skill that showcases your interest in cutting-edge technology and boosts your college applications with real-life projects. Even if you're not targeting a CS degree, understanding AI helps you grasp how our world works and equips you with vital data skills, enhancing your college prospects.

Here we explore a few dynamic  AI programs that inspire innovation and can set you on the path to future success.


Program focus: Run by Harvard graduate students, this program provides students with an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of AI, interact with leaders of the field, and build a personalised project. Veritas offers two programs, In the AI Scholars program, students work with PhDs from top institutions to learn the fundamentals of Python and key concepts in AI and ML. Students build a strong foundation to code and create AI models independently. In the AI Fellowship, students create a novel AI project independently with the support of a mentor over 12-15 weeks.



Cost: Fee - $1,490 for the AI Scholars program (The 10-week bootcamp). $4,200 for the AI Fellowship (the 12–15-week 1-1 mentorship). $4,700 for both. Need-based financial aid is available.

Program focus: If you're looking for an in-depth focus on AI, the Stanford AI Lab is unbeatable! This three-week online program, co-organized by the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory and the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI), immerses early high school students in AI through lectures, hands-on research projects, and mentoring activities. Participants interact with professionals to explore cutting-edge applications of AI in areas that improve society such as medicine, disaster response, and poverty alleviation. The program offers benefits such as mentorship from AI practitioners, a supportive peer community, and personal growth. 


Cost: $4,000

Program focus: Eager to gain practical experience in AI? The Beaver Works Summer Institute (BWSI) at MIT would be perfect for you. This dynamic, four-week STEM adventure emphasizes hands-on projects in areas like autonomous vehicles and medical AI. Held on the MIT campus, students first complete prerequisite online courses, then engage in collaborative challenges, dynamic lectures, and mentorship from MIT faculty and industry experts. BWSI equips students with cutting-edge AI skills, invaluable networking opportunities


Cost: Prerequisite courses are free but the program fee is $1,750

Eligibility: 14-18 years old

Location: Online and MIT campus (Cambridge, MA)

Dates: 8th July 2024

Deadline: 31st March 2024


Program focus: This fully funded, four-week program invites rising high school seniors across the US to explore artificial intelligence alongside CMU faculty and researchers. Dive into college-level courses, hands-on projects, and engaging seminars on college readiness and equity in STEM. With all expenses covered, including tuition, housing, and meals, AI Scholars offers a comprehensive and enriching experience in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Eligibility: US Citizen; 16-18 years old

Location: CMU Campus (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania)

Dates: 22nd June to 20th July 2024 

Deadline: 1st March 2024


Program focus: Whether you're interested in AI's applications in healthcare, robotics, or finance, the AI Scholars by Inspirit AI provides a supportive environment to develop your expertise and become a leader in the field. This immersive educational experience is designed to equip you with essential AI skills through hands-on projects and in-depth learning modules. Led by experienced instructors and industry professionals, AI Scholars delve into fundamental AI concepts like machine learning and neural networks, preparing you for future challenges in technology. Ideal for students with programming experience, the program emphasizes hands-on learning with topics such as model development, neural networks, and engineering problem-solving.

Eligibility: 14-18 years old; Must have completed Algebra 2 or equivalent.

Location: Online, with the possibility of being on campus

Dates: June 17 - June 28; July 8 - July 19; July 29 - Aug 9

Deadline: 22nd April 2024
